i know, religion has done wonders for our development. People don't get much of anything, i remember talking about evolution to my parents and they thought i was crazy even when i explained Darwins bird theory.

In my family, if it's possible that the topic may involve debating or controversy....they don't talk about it at all, and I mean AT ALL!!!

It was great when I found my fiance, his family LOVES to have conversations about the most random of things. They are a family of 6, so you can imagine everyone at the dinner table with their different point of views. That had to end when my fiance and his brother didn't see eye to eye on something so my fiance threw a fork at him and it got stuck in his eyebrow. It was really funny though.

fork stuck in his brow? that sounds like fiction, and very dysfunctional, he could have lost an eye.

that is frightening!!

Many fanatical religious people believe that unless it is written in the __________(choose whatever religious text you wish and insert here) then it is the work of a dark power, and belief in it is akin to blaspheming God---and in their minds should be punished and held up to ridicule. Plain and simple, they are afraid that something other than the _______(insert religious text name again) could actually have some truth to it, and therefore in their black/white universe that would mean their holy text is wrong, (GASP!) or at least didn't tell them the whole story, so they act like crazy zelots trying to erradicate that which doesn't fit their schema.......
Actually, when one accepts the fact that many passages are printed as allegories in these books, then the whole Evolution vs. the ___________( Bible, Torah, Koran etc.) argument doesn't have to be an either/or proposition.....God, using the "tools" of physics, could create and sculpt the earth, and then have used the "tool" of evolution to populate it , guiding how it turned out by using the extinctions and other natural disasters. The one hang up with this idea is that we, as we are now exist, are supposed to be the finished product, and I think that ANYONE aware of how things are going in this world right now would agree that we are FAR from a perfect creation......

I agree that it is not an either or proposition. the time frame back in the day was not established. we cannot equate it to the 24hours in a day that we live in now. yes and evolution took a certain number of years or "one day" as it is stated in the "bible". The only criteria is that we open our minds to the possbilities instead of limiting ourseloves to dogma.

To paraphrase Micheal Shermer, founder of Skeptic Magazinel, some people can listen to the theory of inteligent design and follow along in the steps, and agree with it. However, people who apply scientific reasoning to the that theory run into a problem with the step "...and then a miracle occurs." It's not that the scientists have a problem with faith, they just have a problem with faith based theories that fail to show their work.

wow! the only problem with your argument is that religious belief is just that - belief or faith and it not proved in any way as you say evolution is not proved. even stephen hawking say that in the end there is god. when you get to the bottom of scientific discovery there is only the miracle or god or what ever you want to call it. the problem with your thinking on this is that you seem to think it is an either/or andevolution does not mean there is no god. i still think religion is man made and not of god. man created religion's in order to make life more tolerable. there is nothing wrong with this for many people but some of us find different ways to make life tolerable. religion helps people who don't know how to act right, learn to act right by following the dogma laid down by religion. this is not wrong but it is entirely unnecessary is my view.

Im talking about religion bashing, especially from the member Kerryl...when he is stereotyping the people who have faith in God, by saying we are fanatical, in his words :"Many fanatical religious people believe that unless it is written in the __________(choose whatever religious text you wish and insert here) then it is the work of a dark power, and belief in it is akin to blaspheming God---and in their minds should be punished and held up to ridicule. " Excuse me, but by saying that about religions is spreading hatred for those millions of people who walk with God on a daily basis, its just such an uneducated statement. I do not ridicule you or this Kerryl person at all for your beliefs, if anything its the complete opposite, I have so much love for everyone it hurts... why is it that all the stereotypical things about us stay at the surface and get focused on so much when people never take the time out to really understand us and know the love we have in our hearts for people? This isnt even about evolution anymore for me, when people criticize evolution, nobody really gets too upset and feels personally attacked because they have no relationship with evolution, when I hear attacks that are unjustified on religions, I am personally hurt, my soul is wounded and I dont even know, I am a very emotional person and I cant stop crying, so whatever, its been a hard day

Kerryl was just saying that fanatical religious people etc. no all religious people but the fanatical ones. you shouldn;t take it personally when a person is discussing a general topic and not individuals, my point is that religion and evolution are not either/or in other words a person can believe in god and evolution. they are not mutually exclusive. it took god 7 days to create the world. we don't know what seven days was back then they could have been a million years per day. anyway that is my thought.
